For both modification beginners and veterans! Recommended collaboration costumes and modification tips
Are you enjoying the second Dot Estee x Sanrio Characters collaboration? They are all so cute, it's hard to decide! This time, I would like to recommend them from an altered perspective! Here are the items ✨
PAGEBOYLIM×BAD BADTZ-MARU
https://stymore.jp/items/e5a81baa-7163-4e64-99c8-e243b617240d
PAGEBOYLIM's brand concept is based on the theme of gender-free street fashion, so it is easy to wear for all ages and genders🙆.
Among them, the 3D model version of the top is a tucked-in style that goes well with a variety of bottoms! It can be combined with everything from trouser styles to skirts.
However, if you combine costumes other than the set costume, the mesh of the clothes may interfere or the size may not match even with compatible costumes 🤔 You still want to use your favourite items, don't you? For such cases, we will also introduce some modification techniques that can be done in Unity alone!
This time, Komano will be wearing the PAGEBOYLIM x Bad Batamaru GameShirt.
This article assumes that the costumes are worn using ModularAvatar, but the process of adjusting costume combinations is the same for other tools and manual dress-up.
First check the screen settings and operating instructions. Check the model by looking at it from various angles during modification.
Komanoprefab is used as the default costume will be matched.
Hide unused costume meshes.
As a preliminary step, set Komano-kun's Karada shape key to the same as in the image.
Also, to make the screen easier to see, hide the "skirt", "Tshirt" and "Hoodie" meshes and the "Skirt_Root" bone on the GameShirt side. You can also hide them by leaving the Inspector square blank.
Easy level (1)
Let's start with Komano's default costume 'Bottom'.
If the 'GameShirt' is worn as it is, it is supposed to match the skirt of the original set, so the bottom waist area is interfering. Select the 'GameShirt' mesh and adjust it using the shape keys. Refer to the image for specific figures.
Now you have a good fit! Now it's time to make it wear with the tools of your choice.
Level of effort (ii).
The next step is to combine Komano's corresponding costumes with each other.
We will use Hakama, a Komano-specific costume from ClothesC. We're going for a 'tucked into the hakama, with a fluffy part of the shirt on top' look. What's important from here is not to be perfect, but to be generous and say, "If it looks like that, it's good! The key from this point on is not to be perfect, but to be generous and say, "If it looks like that, it's good!
Set Komano's Karada shape key as shown in the image. Hide unused meshes and shaking bones.
The GameShirt shape key should be set as shown in the image.
This is where the bone adjustment comes in: set the X-axis of the Hips bone scale to '0.94' and the X-axis of the Spine to '1.06'.
Lower the Y-axis of Spine's Position to '-0.0023' to hide the interference area with the fluffiness of the shirt! Adjust the position of the neck and shoulders by raising the Y-axis of Chast to 0.236.
In this case, the figures are written for clarity, but these adjustments are often done by feel of appearance.
Completion! Compared to the very first, it looks more natural!
If I change the proportion or position of the bone, won't it affect the avatar when it moves? However, semi-compatible costumes are basically costumes that have been adjusted in this way, so you should be fine.
However, the weights of the costume models have not changed, so there will inevitably be some interference between the bodies and costumes. In such cases, we recommend using a shape key on the body or a tool to erase part of the mesh.
In the image, I used 'Remove Mesh in Box' in Avatar Optimizer to remove the mesh.
The procedure in level (2) is the same as the adjustment method used when dressing avatars in non-compatible costumes only in Unity, so even models in non-compatible costumes can be dressed if you work a little harder. However, the adjustments introduced in this article are not suitable for body-fitting, skin-tight costumes such as swimming costumes and leotards for female models, as the difference in weight is very easy to show.
This is the end of the first part. This alone should have broadened your range of costume matching, but the second part will explain the more technical 'how to dress unsupported costumes'! If you are interested, please have a look!
